Practice Standard for Scheduling – 2nd Edition

Effective project scheduling and time management are critical factors in the success or failure of a particular project. And, increasingly project management professionals are responsible for managing a variety of project schedules and timelines.

For that reason, Project Management Institute (PMI) has produced the Practice Standard for Scheduling, a systematic guide describing hallmarks of a sound and effective schedule methodology, as well as providing quantifiable means for assessing the maturity of a schedule model.

As a complement to A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), the primary objective of the Practice Standard for Scheduling is to transform the information in the PMBOK® Guide, specifically the project time management section (Chapter 6), into an actionable and objective measurement process for project schedule models and project schedules.

Practice Standard for Scheduling also seeks to document the schedule model maturity element required for an evolving Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3®). Thus, the Practice Standard for Scheduling lays down both the requirements and the form of assessment to evaluate compliance.

The Practice Standard for Scheduling is targeted at project management practitioners who are knowledgeable of the fundamentals of Critical Path Methodology (CPM) project scheduling. The Practice Standard for Scheduling presents seasoned practitioners with the tools and information they need to efficiently and effectively schedule projects with confidence
