Project Overview
Established in 2013, Querium empowers students to master critical math skills through patented AI technology built on the expertise of master teachers. Aiming to create an interactive eLearning platform for STEM courses, the company sought a skilled engineering team to bring their vision to life. Leveraging strong technical expertise, LARION’s team of 4 developers successfully built the solution in just 3 months using Ruby on Rails, AngularJS, and Backbone.js. With its robust capabilities, the platform significantly improved student performance and went on to earn numerous awards
Challenge: Assembling a Skilled Tech Team
With the goal of helping American students accelerate their progression through STEM developmental courses and better prepare for college-level work, Querium envisioned creating an engaging e-learning platform designed to enhance the overall learning experience with personalized learning paths for students at various academic levels.
Recognizing the complexity and technical demands of such an ambitious project, Querium sought additional expertise to turn their vision into reality. To ensure the platform’s success, they enlisted LARION to assist in the development process.
Solution: Future-Ready Learning Platforms
Under the Time and Materials (T&M) model, LARION undertook the full-cycle development of an e-learning platform over a 3-month period. Working in an Agile environment, our team of 4— consisting of 1 Scrum Master and 3 developers — collaborated closely to ensure rapid, flexible delivery. We leveraged Ruby on Rails for backend development, alongside AngularJS and Backbone.js for a dynamic and responsive frontend.
The platform offers robust capabilities, including:
- Course learning: Powered by patented StepWise AI technology, the platform personalized learning paths, offers practice placement tests, and provides immediate feedback to help students improve their performance.
- Analytics & reporting: Tracked student and teacher performance, providing insights into engagement metrics, completion rates, and test results.
- Integration: Seamlessly integrated with popular LMS platforms such as Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, and Agilix.
Results: Boosting Student Performance and Winning Awards
Featuring robust capabilities, the e-learning platform delivered impressive outcomes, driving significant improvements in student performance:
- 90% of students improved their scores by an average of 10 points
- 62% surpassed the cut line, allowing them to skip at least one developmental course.
- 25% of Querium users achieved college-ready scores, compared to just 16% of non-users,
- 42% advanced from developmental math to college-ready, eliminating the need for remedial coursework.
The platform’s impact was further recognized with multiple prestigious awards, including Rice Alliance’s “Most Promising IT & Web Company,” a “Platinum Rating” from GIIRS for Social Impact, “Most Promising Start-up” at Book Expo America 2015, and inclusion in Austin’s Top 50 Start-ups to Watch in 2015.
”LARION has done a great job with our project and continue to give us excellent customer service”
